Throwback Thursday: Old School 100.3’s E. Steven Collins

We interrupt our normally scheduled travel program to share with you the celebration of the life of Mr. E. Steven Collins. It’s only fitting that this throwback Thursday be for him….

Radio One declared September 21st E. Steven Collins Day in honor of his great life works. He was the director of urban marketing and external relations, as well as a radio personality of Radio One’s Old School 100.3 of Philadelphia. Add to that, he was a humanitarian, father, lover, realist…many even called him the “unofficial mayor” of Philly! The list goes on and on to describe just how much of an outstanding man he was. It was because of all of his great works, the Radio One Philadelphia family welcomed thousands of people to Sharon Baptist Church in support of his day. His list of celebrity supporters that came to share fond memories and encouraging words was from Mayor Nutter to Kenny Gamble to Sheryl Lee Ralph to Al Sharpton to Tom Joyner and several others. Mayor Nutter shared that he was “not sure if E knew how to say no. If he did, I never heard it. He was always concerned about the community, never for himself.” E. Steven Collins’s son Langston shared that his dad have him anything he could ever want. In return “all you owe me is what you give to your kids.” Everyone that crossed paths with E. Steven Collins would agree that he was a man you want to be. He used his celebrity to advance his community, he stood firm in what he believed in, and he showed us the best way to be a positive role model is to just be a good man in all you do. Mr. E. Steven Collins, we at Global Lipstick along with thousands of others will greatly miss you! R.I.P
